In the municipality of San Antonio, Tolima, a family arrived in the hamlet of San Jorge. Led by ElÃas Huelgos and his wife, Nubia Medina, they brought along their six children. They initially purchased a farm named El Espejo, now known as Los Girasoles, which was barren and filled only with sugarcane, lacking a house for them to live in.
With determination, they began cultivating the land, initially growing coffee that had to be sold green and at any price, making it hard to make ends meet. However, ElÃas believed in the potential of their coffee. He was convinced they could produce something special, and so they started focusing on high-quality specialty coffees.
In 2010, their hard work paid off when they participated in Expo Especiales, proudly ranking among the top entries. This achievement fueled their belief that each day their coffee would get even better. They recognized the value of exotic coffee varieties, which they saw as a pathway to a thriving market and a better quality of life for their family.
With every cup brewed, the Huelgos family's commitment to excellence continued to shine through, as they crafted not just coffee, but a legacy that would endure for generations.
