Thirty-five years ago, after completing my medical studies and cardiology specialization, I returned to my hometown. At that time, my mother, who now watches over us from heaven, owned a beautiful estate at the foot of the majestic Galeras volcano. Due to her golden years, she was no longer able to tend to the estate with the dedication that a coffee farm demands. I proposed to my mother that I take the estate on lease, as both the coffee plantations and the processing facility urgently needed attention.
Back then, my knowledge of coffee cultivation was limited, but I quickly fell in love with the agronomy of coffee and the work involved. This new passion also allowed me to contribute to the community through my medical profession. It wasn’t long before I was able to purchase the estate. I visited every weekend after my work shifts, never missing my commitment to this beautiful estate, which soon became my cherished project.
With much effort and the unwavering support of my small but efficient team, we have integrated environmentally friendly technologies in both coffee cultivation and processing. My dream of bringing our coffee to international markets, as many courageous pioneers have done, led me to pursue a specialization in Coffee Cultivation and Marketing at the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia in Pasto, where I was part of the first graduating class.
As a physician, I firmly believe in the health benefits of coffee, a conviction supported by numerous studies. In the medium term, my goal is to promote coffee as a functional beverage that contributes to the prevention of neurodegenerative diseases and enhances functional performance. Coffee stimulates mental agility, boosts mood, and overall improves quality of life.
In essence, coffee enriches life, and I am dedicated to showcasing its benefits to the world while continuing to nurture the legacy of my beloved estate.
