José Gustavo Derazo hails from a family with a rich tradition in coffee cultivation. At the age of 21, he began working the fields alongside his mother, who instilled in him a deep passion for coffee farming. Early in his career, José Gustavo started planting coffee, initially focusing on the Caturra variety in a modest 0.15-hectare plot on his estate, La Ensillada, located in the Vista Hermosa village of the municipality of Samaniego.
José Gustavo’s family, including his wife María Lastenia Melo and their two children, Ariel Alexander and Elsy Nayibe, have been unwavering supporters in the coffee cultivation and processing journey. The work on the farm is primarily carried out by family members and local neighbors, fostering a strong sense of community and shared effort.
As a diligent coffee grower, José Gustavo is committed to applying good agricultural practices both in cultivation and processing. His dedication to quality has recently paid off, as he achieved finalist status in the Tierra de Diversidad quality competition for the first time.
