A long time ago, there was a coffee grower named Luis Socorro Gutiérrez Mendoza, son of José de la Cruz Gutiérrez and Ilda María Mendoza. From a young age, Luis was involved in coffee cultivation, helping his father work the land since he was just 15 years old. As Luis grew older, he married Edilma Rosa Gómez, and together they built a family. With hard work and dedication, Luis inherited a portion of his father’s land and expanded the coffee-growing area. He initially planted the Caturra variety but, driven by his leadership and eagerness for knowledge, he continually sought out educational opportunities provided by extension services. This drive led him to renew his coffee crops with new varieties, starting with Colombia, and later incorporating Castillo and Cenicafé 1. Luis’s commitment to producing high-quality coffee has led him to pursue certifications such as 4C and Coffee Practices. He has participated in several Tierra de Diversidad and Saboreando el Café de Mi Tierra competitions. This year marks the second time he has had the honor of being among the top five finalists from the Norte de Santander committee, alongside 50 coffee growers from across the country. Luis is deeply grateful to God, his family, and the National Federation of Coffee Growers for providing these opportunities and for helping to elevate the recognition of his coffee both nationally and internationally.
