I began my journey in coffee cultivation at a very young age. By the time I was 12 years old, I had left school after the third grade. My father and grandfather were both coffee growers. We used to trade coffee with two horses, collecting it from nearby villages such as Consacá and Yacuanquer. We would dry the coffee and sell it; that was our way of life. After my grandfather passed away, we inherited the coffee estate, and my father and I continued working it. I also worked as a coffee picker in other departments, where I learned more about coffee cultivation. I found great joy in it because coffee farming allowed me to grow a variety of crops alongside it, including food crops, fruit trees, yuca, arracacha, corn, and beans. I got married and had five children, although we tragically lost one, which was a profound sorrow for us. Today, I live with my wife and my grandson, who, along with my daughters and sons-in-law—all of whom are also coffee growers—help with the farm’s work. My vision for the future is to continue expanding my coffee cultivation with the support of coffee institutions. I plan to build a better solar dryer, improve the processing area, and purchase a pulper to ease the coffee production process for my entire family. Coffee cultivation is our livelihood, and these improvements will help us continue to thrive. This journey reflects not just a deep-rooted tradition but also a commitment to enhancing our practices and sustaining our way of life through coffee.
