My name is Pablo Henry Villamizar Ortiz, a coffee grower from the municipality of Toledo, Norte de Santander. My farm, La Palmita, is located in the village of Román, at an altitude of 1810 meters above sea level. I have been working in coffee cultivation since 2006, alongside my wife Liria González and our children Juan Pablo, Tatiana, Yilmer Alejandro, and María Fernanda. I began coffee cultivation in 2006 after moving from the department of Arauca. I chose the municipality of Toledo, Norte de Santander, in search of new opportunities for my family, and precisely arrived in Toledo due to my love for my land, to return to my roots. Since my grandparents were coffee growers, I saw coffee cultivation as a tradition and a family bond that would help me move forward. Upon arriving in Toledo, I began to understand the importance of this crop for the economy and tradition of many families who rely on this beautiful work. After getting to know the quality of coffee produced in the municipality, I decided to work on having my own excellent-quality coffee. I started planting the Colombia variety and since 2013, I have been planting the Castillo variety, an excellent quality coffee. I have followed all agronomic practices based on recommendations from the extension service, planting with densities of 6,666 plants per hectare and applying two fertilizations a year. I also incorporate organic matter into the soil to improve it. As a coffee grower, I feel happy. Thanks to coffee cultivation, I have supported my family, built a house, and had the opportunity to educate my children. I believe that coffee brings about the most important thing, which is love and family unity. Coffee generates a better quality of life for the families who work with it, and it is a tradition that is passed down from generation to generation. Toledo is primarily a producer of specialty and quality coffee, influenced by the warm winds that come from the piedmont Llanero, creating a microclimate for which we are blessed.
