My name is Cesar Acosta Cárdenas, and I am 63 years old. My father, Adelino Acosta, and my mother, Anatilde Cárdenas, raised me in Gachalá, in the village of El Diamante. Since I was ten years old, I learned the tasks of the field by accompanying my father in the cultivation of sugarcane, corn, and coffee.

Later, I saw work opportunities in the city of Bogotá that were different from what my village offered. As a result, I moved there at around 23 years old. I had different jobs, which led me to live in various regions of Colombia, with my longest stay being in Guaviare, from where I was displaced due to the armed conflict of that time, losing all the properties I had gained through hard work up to that point. Because of this situation, I returned to Gachalá, my hometown, in 2022, where I was warmly welcomed by my family and neighbors from my village, El Diamante.

In this situation, with nothing but the desire to start over, I remember the words my father told me one day: 'Son, plant coffee, for these lands are meant for that.' Following those wise words of my father, I started coffee farming with a plot he gave me and planted my first 3,000 plants. With these first plants, I saw the benefits of coffee farming, which allowed me to support my family—my wife and my four daughters. For this reason, the family decided to continue planting more, and today I have 6,800 plants of different varieties established.

My coffee farming venture, like many in the area, has been one of the key factors for driving the economic, social, and environmental movement in our village.

I, Cesar Acosta, am a coffee farmer very grateful that one day I decided to plant coffee.
