Judith Rodríguez was born and raised in the village of Charguayaco, in Pitalito, a place known for its mountainous landscapes and high-quality coffee production. From a young age, her parents, traditional coffee growers, instilled in her a love for the land, especially for coffee. At 17, with the support of her family, she decided to start a career in coffee farming, a path that, although filled with challenges, would allow her to contribute to the support of her home and honor the traditions of her community. But it was at 21 when she received the most precious gift from her father: a plot of land. Judith had always dreamed of turning the small family farm into a prosperous coffee plantation. However, when she took charge, she faced the reality that most of the crops were aged and in poor condition. The coffee trees were old, and some didn’t even produce beans. Despite the hardships, Judith didn’t get discouraged. Instead of giving up, she decided to research the proper management of plantations. She began reading books, attending workshops, and talking to experts in coffee farming. She learned about crop renewal techniques and integrated crop management. Motivated by the arrival of her first child, with determination and a deep connection to the land, Judith began cultivating her own coffee plants. She learned to identify coffee varieties, select seeds, and care for each seedling as it grew. Through dedication and effort, her small crop grew, and with it, her knowledge of cultivation and production techniques. Thus, Judith, together with her husband and children, founded Finca el Peñon, a project that started with 3,000 coffee trees and today has more than 7,000 trees and continues to expand. Judith's family consists of her husband, Mr. Edis Giraldo, and their children Juan Diego, 12 years old, and Edis Esteban, 10 years old. It is Mr. Edis who takes care of the maintenance tasks for the crops as well as other duties at various stages of production. Together, they have formed a great team, which is reflected in the recognition of the quality of their coffee.
