In the picturesque municipality of Pitalito, within the corregimiento of Bruselas, the legacy of coffee cultivation is deeply rooted in the life of Don Víctor Félix Ramírez Cruz. At 60 years old, Don Víctor has dedicated 35 of those years to nurturing the rich, aromatic beans that have come to define his existence and community. Married to Doña Blanca Rubys López, Don Víctor's life is a tapestry woven with the love of family and the dedication to coffee. Together, they have raised five children—Marly, Edisson, Víctor, Jorge, and Jesús—and now enjoy the joy of six grandchildren. Their family’s bond is reflected in the way they work together on the farm, united by a shared passion for coffee. Don Víctor's journey into the world of specialty coffee began around eight years ago, when he first ventured into coffee competitions. His entry into these contests was driven by a newfound passion and a desire to showcase the unique qualities of his coffee. Through dedication and relentless effort, Don Víctor earned recognition in the region, consistently placing in the top 20 of the “Taza de la Excelencia” competition over the past five years. This year, Don Víctor decided to present his coffee in the “Tierra y Diversidad” contest, bringing forward a meticulously crafted Geisha coffee. His process was a testament to his expertise and innovation. The coffee underwent an anaerobic wash, with a fermentation period of 40 hours in cherry and another 40 hours in a temperature-controlled tank. The drying process began in the Elva house for the initial hours, followed by careful drying in pacerás. For storage, the coffee was kept in fique sacks and GrainPro bags for 15 days to ensure optimal quality. Don Víctor's entry not only highlighted his technical skills but also his dedication to his family. He attributes much of his success to the unwavering support and hard work of his three sons—Edisson, Víctor, and Jesús. These three have committed their time and effort to enhance and add value to the coffee produced on their finca. Their involvement has been instrumental in the success of Don Víctor’s coffee, making them integral to the farm’s achievements. His recent success in the “Tierra y Diversidad” contest, where he achieved a commendable result, is a milestone in his coffee journey. Although it is his first time participating in this particular contest, Don Víctor aims for the coveted first place, driven by his passion and the legacy of his craft. The story of Don Víctor Félix Ramírez Cruz is one of dedication, family unity, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. His journey from a local coffee cultivator to a respected figure in the world of specialty coffee is a testament to the rich heritage of Colombian coffee and the enduring spirit of those who cultivate it. As he continues to refine his craft and compete at the highest levels, Don Víctor remains committed to honoring the tradition of coffee cultivation while pushing the boundaries of quality and innovation.
